Instagram offers a new feature that may satisfy users

Facebook was unable to achieve peace with the fact that Instagrammers were using the system without appearing "Active" every time. They also introduced the timestamp feature a few months ago, which appear in the DMs when the latter is active on the platform. But that was not enough. Facebook added new green points to Instagram to indicate when you're online. (Yes, just like we have on Messenger).
These green dots will appear in your live Instagram messages, as well as in your friends list that appears when you post a post with someone or forward a story.
Instagram wrote in his blog that you'll be able to see the active status of people you follow or have spoken to in your live messages. So, even if you do not follow them, but if you accept a stranger on DM, you'll see when they last came online.

Instagram lets you disable the green status indicator. To do this, you can go to "Activity status" in the app settings menu, where it is set to "ON" by default.
If your app is not in auto-update mode, you'll need to manually go to the app store and update your app to the latest version, so you can see the new feature. The feature appears to have been rolled out to all Android and iOS users.
So far, Instagram has indicated both when you are connected to a green dot, and the last time you're active, with its Active Status feature. For people who do not know, you can also disable the active state of settings by scrolling down to an option called "Activity status" in your application's setup. You need to click on them and switch them.
The same rule applies to these features, such as what we see on WhatsApp, if you disable your Active Status and green dot, you will not be able to see the status of other people as well.
