The Spanish star Andres Iniesta, after arriving in Japan on Wednesday, announced that he may appear for the first time, when his new host Vissel Kobe hosts his rival Shunan Belmir on Sunday.
"It was a long journey, but I was looking forward to coming to Japan," said Iniesta, 34, who received about 300 fans on arrival at the airport. "I'm excited to play with my colleagues at Vesel."
"I want to play as soon as possible, I will be at the top of my level on Sunday and I hope to perform well in front of the fans."
Japan's Kyodo news agency quoted Cuban officials as saying Iniesta would join the team on Friday in preparation for Sunday's match.
Iniesta will co-host Lukas Podolski, Germany's former striker, and Kobe will play the famous midfielder 8.
The veteran midfielder spent 16 years in Barcelona, where he was crowned there in the league 9 times, the Champions League 4 times and the King's Cup 6 times, before moving to Kobe in May.
Kobe occupy sixth place in the league after 15 rounds, while the best previous result was when he came seventh in 2016 and will dream after Iniesta came to win the title for the first time.
Iniesta, the winner of Spain's 2010 World Cup, retired from international football after a surprise exit to Russia in the last World Cup.
