Google warns Google users of a serious threat to Gmail

Gmail users have been notified about the new Google Mail feature, which can be used by online scammers to trigger a wave of phishing attacks, media reports said.
The company unveiled in April its new design that introduced a clean new user interface and a host of new features including the ability to defer a message, generate intelligent responses automatically and self-destruct emails in the new "secret mode".
The report said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a warning about the "potential threat ... of the heinous activity" with the redesign of Gmail.
"We have communicated with Google to inform them of the relevant intelligence related to their services to improve our mutual interests in cybersecurity," said Leslie Volop, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security.
One of the key points of these concerns is the new "secret email" feature that can ask users to click a link to access these messages.
With Gmail redesigning, phishing scanners can send false copies of confidential email alerts and trick the user into entering sensitive details.
"The giant technology company is committed to protecting users' personal information security and thus creating automated learning algorithms to detect possible cybercriminals," Google spokesman Brooks Huguig said.
