When the Nintendo Switch was announced, investors expressed doubts. The Nintendo Switch was somewhat similar in concept to the previous Nintendo devices, and as the Nintendo Wii U failed to market, it is easy to imagine why they were worried.
Needless to say, all these fears are now a thing of the past because, according to Nintendo's financial results in the first quarter of this year, the Japanese company has been able to sell 17.8 million units of the Nintendo Switch so far. What makes this even more surprising is that Nintendo managed to sell all those units in just about a year. Thus, the Nintendo Switch exceeded the overall sales of the Nintendo Wii U within five years.
Of course, the Nintendo Switch is still far behind the Nintendo Wii, which has a total sales of 100 million units. We are not sure whether the Nintendo Switch will be able to access these numbers, but may approach them. Nintendo is now doing a great job of launching games for the Nintendo Switch, and third-party developers are also playing, meaning that unlike the Nintendo Wii U, the Nintendo Switch may have a continuous set of games for players to look for.
The Nintendo Switch has also won numerous awards such as the "Best of 2017" award from Time magazine
